The Common House
110 E Benson St, Anderson, SC 29624
The Common House is a regular stomping ground for me. I spend most weekends here either doing Bible study, homework, or just enjoying time with friends. It is a unique combination of a coffee house, an Italian restaurant, and a cozy spot for weekend brunch.
The building itself sticks out with its black exterior and as you enter through the heavy wooden door, you are greeted by a warm atmosphere of creaking wooden floors, colorful couches, and the lovely sounds of the copper tinted espresso machine with the drift of roasted beans reaching your nose. There are vintage frames along the dark walls, and when you reach the back room the ceiling grows higher with a display of stained glass windows above. The upper room is a layout of couches and tables with some greenery and floor to ceiling windows. The whole space is consistent with the cozy atmosphere.
They have some of my favorite coffee here. Not only that, but they also offer teas and pastries. The sourdough cinnamon rolls are a popular pick. However, most things seem to switch out seasonally; especially their coffee. They have had gingerbread chai and crème brûlée lattes at Christmas time and they had a pumpkin flavor in the fall made with authentic pumpkin purée.
Their dinner menu is Italian based so they offer their dishes as antipasti, primi, and secondi. From pesto ravioli, brown butter picci, and escabeche mussels you are sure to find something to please your taste buds. Dinner is mainly offered on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. For brunch, which is offered on Saturdays and Sundays, they have a full menu offering avocado toast with focaccia bread, pancakes with cinnamon whipped cream and pecan crumbles, eggs in purgatory, and house-made bagels. They also offer mimosas and juices!
So whether your looking for a bite to eat, a nice night out, or just a cozy study sesh, Common House is the perfect place to use your time well. I can assure you of a warm welcome and a memorable experience.
